Hello World(s) is an experimental typography project created in a graduate-level typography class, Typographic Voice and Visual Narrative by Sohee Kwon, at SCAD. The project focuses on American scientist and astronomer Carl Sagan as the persona of the project. After having done research about Sagan, I designed visuals by combining Image+Type, Place+Type, Texture+Type. Eventually, 10 different typographic compositions were created by getting inspiration from Sagan’s life and scientific achievements.

The visuals, latter became visual narratives of a newspaper based on the writings that are published by Sagan and that are about him.

In addition to the newspaper, his well-known show, Cosmos, is turned into a typographic narrative by using VR techniques. In the video, Milky-way and our solar system is recreated with letters. Using Carl Sagan’s original voice, the project aims at replacing the realistic depictions with letters and expanding the boundaries of experimental typography.
